DWWA Regional Trophy - Award Ceremony, September 2011
SZENT ISTVÁN KORONA BRAND’S WINE BROUGHT A PLEASANT SURPRISE AT THE DECANTER WORLD WINE AWARD CEREMONY
As you may already know, Szent István Korona brand’s Etyek-Budai Irsai Olivér wine has been awarded the title of Best Hungarian White Wine, and received the Regional Trophy at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London. Gábor Laczkó viticulturist made the trip to London with high anticipation and with a proud heart to attend the award ceremony. But he couldn’t have known, that the ceremony held in the Royal Opera House - representing the prestige of the award itself - on 7th September 2011 would bring such further excitement. Much to his utter surprise, all wines having won Regional Trophy awards were entered into yet another competition, and were now competing for the International Trophies of different categories of wine during the evening.
In the category of aromatic white wines, Gábor Laczkó, the young creator of Szent István Korona Irsai Olivér, and an Argentinian viticulturist would keep their fingers crossed in the spotlight, since it was a decision between their wines for the world’s best wine award. Eventually, the international trophy went to the Argentinian vineyard, but being second best in such a competition is making us all just as proud. A Hungarian wine having gotten in the last round of a prestigious international competition drew the attention of the most important experts of the international wine scene, who are getting interested in Hungary, placing her on the list of the most well-known wine manufacturer countries.
